Derek Debus

Derek Debus serves as the Director of Military and Veteran Law at Stone Rose Law. An accredited VA attorney, Derek is also admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, the Arizona District Court, and before all state courts in New Mexico and Arizona.

Prior to joining Stone Rose Law, Derek worked as a prosecutor for one of the largest prosecutorial agencies in the country. Through this experience, Derek has gained the skills and experience necessary to know how to build a successful case for his clients. Derek attended law school at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, graduating with distinction and recognition as a Trial Advocacy Fellow of the law college.

Before attending law school, Derek served as an infantryman and Combat Instructor in the United States Marine Corps. While serving as a Marine, Derek learned the attention to detail and military knowledge necessary to be a successful attorney and accredited VA disability benefits lawyer. He leverages his inside knowledge of the military to help uncover and obtain the evidence needed to help his clients earn the benefits they deserve.Derek first became interested in the field of veterans’ benefits law after his own struggles with the VA. Realizing that it shouldn’t take going to law school for the average veteran to obtain their benefits, Derek remains committed to providing high quality representation to his clients as he fights for the benefits they have earned.

When Derek isn’t working, he greatly enjoys playing chess and spending time with his wife and two dogs. Derek also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for three different organizations; Academe Grove, a nonprofit aimed at maximizing school safety through evidence-based practices; Saving Scales, a nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating all manner of reptiles and amphibians; and Bullshido, a nonprofit media organization aimed at debunking falsehoods in law, governance, and the martial arts.
